Sadness

The nuclear problems Japan is facing reminds me hauntingly of this quote.

First They came... - Pastor Martin Niemoller, about the inactivity of German intellectuals in the Third Reich's rise to power.

"First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me."

I know its cynical, but I can't help but think that now America will wake up, if the rich white kids start getting sick from radiation traveling over the Pacific.

Now the world will finally realize, there are no such things as "other peoples' problems." There are only our problems, and none of us our okay until everyone is okay. We have a responsibility to help.
