Sin Bandera- Te Vi Venir

I just barely have you, and already I fear losing you, love
How quickly I became attached,
How deep is all this pain.

How little I've known you,
and now I play it all on you
I don't fear betting,
its losing you I fear

No refuge remains but fantasy
There is nothing else to do but write you poetry

Because I saw you come, and I didn't doubt
I saw you arrive, I embraced you
and I put in all my passion so that you would stay
And later I kissed you, and risked the truth
I caressed you, and finally opened my heart to let you in

My love I gave you without condition, so that you would stay.

Now I'll wait a few days to see if what I gave you was enough
You don't know the terror I feel,
the wait each morning,
If you don't want to return, love would lose its feeling for ever
I wouldn't understand this world, I'd abandon the people

Sin Bandera- Suelta mi mano

No, its not necessary to understand
because reason has never served the heart,
the heart doesn't think.
No, my life, why are you making an effort?
you don't have to explain. I will always love your freedom,
despite how much it hurts.

And I do understand that you want to talk
that sometimes you need to know of me
but I don't know if I want to know of you,
to live like this, keep on like this, thinking of you

Let go of my hand, already, please
Understand that I have to go.
If you don't feel any more this love,
I have nothing else to say.
Don't say anything, now please,
I understand you, but understand me:
each word increases the hurt,
and a tear wants to leave.

And please don't stop me
I always find a way to continue and to live
though I don't have you anymore.
And no, mi life, its not worth it
for what do you want to call,
if he that was me will not be there.
This is the last dinner.

How long do we have, to test the limits of our joy?

Something about true love pulls the stinger out of time.
How long do we have, to test the limits of our joy?

"What would happen if one woman told the truth about her life? The world would split open."

Happy Easter

Its Bunny Bunny Time! One of my favorite times of the year. May your season be filled with resurrection, rebirth, chocolate, and bunnies!!!!

Khalil Gibran- Freedom

At the city gate and by your fireside I have seen you prostrate yourself and worship your own freedom,
Even as slaves humble themselves before a tyrant and praise him though he slays them.
...
You shall be free indeed when your days are not without a care nor your nights without a want and a grief,
But rather when these things girdle your life and yet you rise above them naked and unbound.
...
In truth that which you call freedom is the strongest of these chains, though its links glitter in the sun and dazzle your eyes.
...
And what is it but fragments of your own self you would discard that you may become free?
If it is an unjust law you would abolish
that law was written with your own hand  upon your own forehead.
...
And if it is a fear you would dispel, the seat of that fear is in your heart and not in the hand of the feared.
...
Verily all things move within your being in constant half embrace, the desired and the dreaded, the repugnant and the cherished, the pursued and that which you would escape.
These things move within you as lights and shadows in pairs that cling.
And when the shadow fades and is no more, the light that lingers becomes a shadow to another light.
And thus your freedom when it loses its fetters becomes itself the fetter of a greater freedom.

Lady Gaga and Aladdin

I had a big revelation today, and while it is too tedious for this blog, it involved these inspiring words by Lady Gaga. May they inspire you in whatever way you need:

I wanna roll with him a hard pair we will be
A little gambling is fun when you're with me
Russian Roulette is not the same without a gun
And baby when it's love if its not rough it isn't fun

Russian roulette is not the same without a gun. If you want to know how something will go, it can't be for pretend.

Aladdin said,
"Do you trust me?
Then JUMP!"

Animal Hero!

Shout out to Sara Baeckler. She is an undercover spy for the treatment of animals, and saved about 30 chimpanzees so far from animal cruelty.

A chimp named Foxie spent most of her life in vaccine trials and had 5 babies taken away. She now plays with dolls, carrying them around and attending to them.

Thanks to Glamour magazine, for publishing stories about truly glamorous women.

Belinda- Bella Traicion

Another favorite I have translated for you, the artist is Belinda, and the song is called  Beautiful Betrayal

I don't want to seem him again,
my soul is in two for you
I don't care about the fire in which I burn today
They say I'm love sick
that I rise and fall again for you each time you appear in front of me

Chorus:
because without you there is no way
nor destiny, I'm lost
because without you I don't care about the minutes
nor the day, because without you there isn't any present or future,
save me
from this beautiful treachery thatkilled my illusion.
Forgive me if I forget you
I'm sorry if illusion is exhausting

I don't care about what I swore to you
They tell me everything is over
that you're only a song of yesterday
a breath in the air that remains

Chorus

Where will you be when my lips search you
and where will be that dream so sweet that was the two of us
you were my beautiful betrayal!

Rilke, Love

...Not to destroy what one encounters but simply not to find anything complete. Countless possibilities. Countless wishes. And suddenly to be fulfillment, to be summer, to have the sun. Without speaking about it, unwittingly. Never to be done."

Shakira- Si tu no vuelvas

So beautiful this song!

If you don't return,
all the seas will dry
and I will wait with you
stuck to the bottom of some memory

If you don't return,
my will, becoming smaller
I'll stay here,
next to my dog, spying horizons

If you don't return
only deserts will remain
and I'll listen if
some heartbeat remains on this earth,

which was so serene when you loved me
there was a fresh perfume that I breathed
it was so beautiful, so big, it didn't have any end...

and each night a star will come to keep me company
so that you know how I am, so you know what is going on
tell me love, love, love,
I'm here don't you see?
If you don't return, there won't be any life, I won't know what to do

I won't know what to do

If you don't return,
there won't be hope, nor anything
I'll walk without you, drinking rain

....I won't know what to do

Spice and Wolf!

Theme song from my most recent anime adventure, Spice and Wolf, with pics of the main character:

All alone,
on a journey, I lost my way;
as I stood still, my heart alone wandered.
But now I can walk again,
as far as I need to;
yes, ever since I met you
on this road.

The song travelers sing,
though I don't know it,
sounds familiar to me
as long as I'm with you.
If the world we dreamed of
exists anywhere,
let's go look for it,
beyond the wind.
The freezing dawn,
the parched midday,
the trembling night;
let's go see what's at their end.

Your eyes, which
know loneliness well,
blink, and that color
is reflected.

I'll fly into the sky
and become a crescent moon;
those mint-colored stars must be
shards of tears.

A dock in the country to the east; the western sea;
a southern town in a dark forest; a golden tower;
a hill in the south, shaken by water; above all, the same moon.

As long as you'll let me
hold your hand,
how far shall we go?
Together with you,
I can go anywhere.
Let's go embrace
the rustling scent
of a world yet unseen.

tango...can create a space to reflect on power and terror

I just read an amazing book called "Paper Tangos" by Julie Taylor. The place: Argentina. The time: the years 1966-1983, full of political instability, state sponsored terrorism, Dirty Wars, and desaparicidos. Taylor discusses how the tango provides Argentines a free, safe space to think, similar to modern dance therapy. But it is especially effective because the same controversial elements of Argentine culture are present in the dance. By dancing the tango, Argentines can grapple with impossible, forbidden topics such as hierarchy, fear, violence, machismo, authoritarianism. By dancing, they can continue to truly live, shadow of the fear of death.

Here are two selections from that book:

That the world is and always was a mess,
I already know
in the year 506
as well as in 2000....
Just like the unrespectful window
of the pawn shop
all of life has been mixed up...

Twentieth century, pawnshop window
problematic and feverish;
the squeaky wheel gets the grease
and he who doesn't steal is a fool

--from Cambalache, by Enrique Santos Discepolo

And...

dearest, it's that I cannot be there and yet I am there
when bargains are being struck over the price of a life
and exchanging one violence for another
or when you wake up with the fear of a child
when you feel something behind the door
left open as it always has been left open in the dark
it is that not even as an adult can I tell you that behind the door there is nothing at all,
because the worst is that we both know that
just there lies in ambush an obscenely bustling marketplace
where lives and violence and even tranquility are sold
but in such a nightmare carnival
never never can there be an agreement on price
nor can one know with whom one has to make the agreement
much less know if security comes from death or promises of life
or both at once

where are you that I can't tell you?
where are you that I am writing this?
and if you are by my side,
then, where am I sending this letter?

Julie Taylor, from "Paper Tangos" Public Planet books

The last sentence of her book is haunting to me:
What does your dance need? Your tango lacks scream. Dance a tango that screams.

Khalil Gibran-Joy and Sorrow

Your joy is your sorrow unmasked
And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears.
And how else can it be?
The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.
Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter's oven?
And is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was hollowed with knives?
...
Some of you say, "Joy is greater than sorrow," and others say, "Nay sorrow is the greater."
But I say to you they are inseparable.
Together they come, and when one sits alone with you at your board, remember the other is asleep upon your bed.
